Our Origins
From the small village of Ciminna in the province of Palermo, our family’s origins, DavVero is deeply influenced by the local culture and love for food. Our goal is simple, bring a taste of Italy to St Albans, sharing the flavours and traditions that we cherish.
The Village
Ciminna is a charming city situated in the Madonie mountains of Palermo, Sicily. With a population of around 4,000. Many Sicilians in St Albans originate from Ciminna and the surrounding villages due to many moving to St Albans in the 1970s.
A little bit of history…
Ciminna has a rich history, dating back to the Roman era, its ancient ruins and charming medieval town center give it real character. Ciminna’s cultural life revolves around its annual festivals and religious processions, particularly the ancient La Festa del SS. Crocifisso (Feast of the Holy Crucifix) is held in May and the Feast of San Vito, the city’s patron saint, celebrated in September.
The Story so far
Before opening DavVero in 2019, owners Ross and Nic ran the successful Bar Espresso on Victoria Street which has since closed down. It became a hot spot for its amazing sandwich bar during the day and Restaurant at night building a successful reputation.
